Building the New Studio - Page 15 - Floor Finishing
October 1 -10
While Rick was at work on Friday, I unloaded the boards from the car and started to assemble them on the floor. It was like a puzzle and kinda fun. The nicest boards I wanted in the center and the rougher ones could go under the cabinets and the couch. I also wanted them staggered so as not to have any funny lines.
On Saturday Rick did some more trimming to make them fit and so that the edges would butt correctly. Not all of them needed trimming, just a few. When that was done it was time for nailing them down.
Mike and Rick were in charge of nailing. Mike was a big help again when we old folks were starting to get tired. He came along and nailed down half the floor in no time.
It was my job to do the sanding. The first piece of sandpaper ripped quicked so we went to a coarser grit and worked towards a finer grit.
This time it was Rick's job to work on the drainage system while I worked inside on the sanding.
Monday morning I stained the floor with a maple stain. That needed 24 hours to dry before the polyurethane. So during the week I worked at adding coats of polyurethane until Thursday. Then I just wanted to let it dry so we could move my things in over the weekend.
You'll have to wait until Saturday to see the rest. Those of you unable to make it to the opening, there will, of course, be pictures of the party next week! Oh yea, bring your sweaters, not sure if the heat will be installed by Saturday.....always something!
