Sept. 18-25

By Saturday, the 18th, Ivan had made it's way to New Hampshire. All that was left of him was rain, a lot of rain. Lucky for Rick though the plan was to work on the ceiling so, let it pour. It was to be all inside work anyhow. That is except for the bit about the water rising outside and threatening to do damage to my studio if it weren't diverted away. We haven't quite gotten to the laying down drainage pipe yet, hurricanes notwithstanding.

Because this structure was never designed to have a ceiling, it cannot support sheetrock. That being the case we needed to do a suspended ceiling. Rick found a new kind which is made of plastic, instead of metal and can be attached directing to the collar beams. That gives me a little more height than I'd have with the traditional kind of suspended ceiling. Now before you all start snickering, it's my easel that needs the extra height!

So, while Rick started on the ceiling, I started digging outside to divert the water away from the studio. With the right rain gear on, it wasn't too bad. It reminded me of playing with the kids when the they were little - ya know little boys making dams - what is it with little boys and dams anyhow? Besides, I always loved making mud pies - remember guys - the lady in the white Caddy?

When Rick started installing it he found he needed to add a wood perimeter around the room to attach the sides of the ceiling to. Another little something to paint when he's done, but it makes a nice edge.

Mike popped in for a little bit and helped Rick get things started, once the edging was up. Snapping a line and then holding things up while Rick screwed them in moved things along in Mike's unique style.

By Saturday night the framework and some tiles were up. Sunday afternoon the rest of the tiles were up. Now it was my turn again to do some painting. It was also time to order the siding - now it's getting exciting!

This weekend, the 25th of September, Rick installed the lights. One more trip out for the electrician to hook them up and that will be complete.

While Rick finished up putting in the ceiling lights I finished up painting the outside trim along the roof. I got the front and back done during the week, but this up at the peak business I waited to have Rick help me with that ladder. Now the spiders up there were another story.

Yes, there, on the corner, ya see it? It's siding! Wait until you see the next pictures!
