Building the New Studio - Page 12 - In the home stretch....
Sept. 6 - 12

While Rick has been doing all the "heavy lifting", and contrary to popular opinion, I have not been sitting around eating bon bons. I have been doing the finishing work on the walls. After a week and a half of sanding and applying just a little more "mud" here and there, the walls were ready for primer. Or as ready as they'd ever be, ADD always kicks in at some point in this process and I just say, bag it, it's never going to be perfect! I rolled on a coat of primer and asked Rick to put up the trim around the doors and windows so I could finish my work. So yet another trip to Home Depot and another step in the project was underway.

And, as Grandpa Mike would say "All it needs is a coat of paint".

If you look carefully, you'll see the outlets are in and working. That's because while I was inside painting on Saturday and Sunday, Rick and Chris were outside working on running the power lines.
Rick's job on Saturday was to finish the trench to the house for the cable Chris would run on Sunday. So with another piece of equipment rented from Belletes Rick was on the job with the Ditch Witch. A very nasty looking piece of equipment.

As always, here in Cow Hampshire, a huge rock was in the way. For that once again we brought in the big guns - Mikey Dude! After wrestling with the rock dragging it partway up the trench with a chain, Mike jumped in and yanked it out. He always seems to show up at the most opportune times - for us anyhow! Once again he made his escape and Rick was left to finish the trench.

Chris came Sunday and ran the cable from the studio into the house and to the service box in the basement. Then he wired the outlets in the studio. When that was done he flipped on the breakers in the service box for the studio and "voila" - power! No more extension cords running up to the house now.

Sitting in the studio having some lunch, it was hard to imagine we were sitting where Smokey's stall use to be.

So, floor, ceiling and siding. That's what's left. The ceiling is ready to be put up this weekend. The floor - well, that's another interesting project. It will be made from the hemlock planks that once made up the stall walls. They need to be cut and planed - they are rough cut and 1 3/4" thick. Then the floor will need to be sanded once it's been laid. I wonder if I can get Rick to take pictures of his friend planing the wood?

Thanks Chris!

Stay turned!
